“The approach to Black Clauchrie is the stuff of which dreams and car adverts are made. A drive of over four miles snakes in a single track, climbing steeply onto high moor land. With the spring sunshine making the course grass and reeds gleam, this is a most beautiful place. Surrounded by wide views over this striking and wild landscape, it seems as if one is driving across the roof of Ayrshire.”
Michael Davis. The Castles and Mansions of Ayrshire.
Located on the doorstep of the majestic Galloway Hills and Galloway Forest Park, the 14 acre Black Clauchrie Estate lies on the beautiful Scottish borders of Dumfries and Galloway, Ayrshire and Arran.
Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this secluded and tranquil haven is set on high moorland, in an unspoilt landscape of purple heather, mature trees, lush green vegetation, secluded lochs and rushing rivers. The House was originally built as a shooting lodge and its beautiful, wild surroundings are filled with regional wildlife.
The local village of Barrhill is just five miles away and has a friendly store filled with fresh daily produce, alcohol and newspapers. The inviting local pub, The Trout, serves delicious pub food and has a fine selection of single malts.
Beautiful quiet beaches and rugged coastlines are within just a half hour drive, as well as the pretty market town of Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway and the traditional seaside and fishing town Girvan in South Ayrshire. Both towns offer fine dining, supermarkets and bespoke shops. Guests can also travel five minutes further from Girvan to the open championship golf course at Turnberry.
The historic town of Ayr is just an hour away and visitors could also enjoy a day trip to the Isle of Arran or Ireland.
